CANRI Committees and Related Groups

The CANRI program relies on the cooperation of NSW natural resources agencies and key stakeholders. CANRI committees and other groups are working together to build an integrated information access framework that meets real community needs. Contact the groups listed below to learn more about CANRI activities, or to discuss how your organisation might become involved.

CANRI committees

CANRI Program Board

The CANRI Program Board is made up of representatives from NRIMS agencies and the community. It has been established by the NRIMS Steering Group (see  below) to implement and report on the program. The CANRI Program Director sits on the Board, along with the Chairs of the Community Reference Group and Project Implementation Group.  The Board operates under Terms of Reference defined by the NRIMS Steering group.

CANRI Community Reference Group (CRG)

The CRG was formed in May 2001 to bring the views of key community stakeholders into CANRI, so as  to ensure the Program is of maximum benefit to the community. The CRG operates under Terms of Reference defined by the CANRI Board.  Contact the CRG Chair for further details.

CANRI Project Implementation Group (PIG)

The PIG brings together the CANRI suppliers - information providers and application builders - to ensure the Program delivers in an efficient and integrated way. This group operates under Terms of Reference defined by the CANRI Board.

Related groups

NSW Natural Resources Information Management Strategy (NRIMS) Steering Group

The CANRI program is an initiative of the NRIMS Steering Group, which was formed in 1996 as an outcome of a forum of natural resources agency CEOs.  It's responsibilities are outlined in the NRIMS Steering Group Terms of Reference. Representatives are information managers from these agencies.

NSW Metadata Working Group (MWG)

The MdWG manages the collection of standard metadata (data about data) which is essential for discovering and using data.

Biodiversity Information Working Group (BIWG)

The BIWG was formed to implement the information components of the NSW Biodiversity Strategy, consistent with the NRIMS whole-of-government framework.

Coastal Information Management Committee (CIMC)

The CIMC was formed under the NSW Coastal Council to address information needs of sustainable coastal zone management.
