The polygons were digitized by using regulation descriptions and published material. This was verified by regional Fisheries Officers as a good indication of the extent of these areas.

These polygons are presented as an indication of the extent and position of recreational Special Management Areas. They are not to be considered as a legally binding representation.
Attribute accuracy:
Each area is named according to the general location it occurs in, the prohibited activities and exempt activities.
Logical consistency:
The digitized data has been visually checked against published material and by Fisheries Officers.
Completeness:
In progress. Currently includes spearfishing and intertidal protected areas but excludes data sets like commercial closures, nets and traps.
This dataset description complies with ANZLIC Core Metadata Guidelines Version 2 (February 2001) and XML DTD ANZMETA NSW NRIMS Page 1 v1.0 which extends ANZMETA 1.3 (metadata validation date: 2004-12-09)
