CANRI Information Policies
The CANRI Program is an initiative of the NSW Natural Resources Information Management Strategy (NRIMS) Steering Group, and implements key elements of the Strategy. The NRIMS 2002 - 2005 vision is to fully realise the strategic value of natural resource information in support of Government objectives to sustainably manage NSW natural resources.

A key action of the Strategy is to establish and develop access to core and priority natural resource data via the CANRI framework.  CANRI agencies combined records a broad range of data priorities from its stakeholders in the  NSW Natural Resources Data Inventory.

The Strategy and related information management policies have been developed through negotiation and consultation between natural resources management agencies and other stakeholders. The policies are aligned with the Australian Spatial Data Infrastructure (ASDI), a national initiative to provide access to the fundamental spatial data that underpins sound, sustainable development, and the NSW Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSW SDI). The Strategy has the formal endorsement of NSW natural resource agencies through their chief executive officers.

CANRI Collaboration principles
The CANRI Collaboration Principles have been developed to assist the participating agencies to achieve a consistent and quality outcome for the CANRI Program.

NSW Natural Resources Metadata Policy Metadata is data about data - the content, quality, currency and availability of data. Metadata is essential for discovering data and determining its suitability for a particular use.
NSW Custodianship Guidelines for Natural Resources Information
The principle of custodianship is fundamental to information management. It assigns to an organisation certain rights and responsibilities for the collection and management of data on behalf of the wider stakeholder community.

Model Data Management Plan
A Data Management Plan is a useful tool for day to day and longer-term data management. Each plan should be only as detailed as required considering the size and complexity of the dataset and the needs of users.
CANRI Primary Goal Statement In 12 months time, anyone with Internet access will be able reliably and in a reasonable time, to access and use a set of clear maps and linked time-series graphs for their area of NSW, which integrate key natural resource information, based on reliable current data direct from the major custodian agencies.
